Executive Director & CEO

Julian is a serial entrepreneur and investor focused on technology companies. Julian cofounded a digital marketing firm (sold to a Plc) and founded a number of business in the medical devices, drug development, IP commercialisation and IT spaces. He is a serial investor and advisor to technology companies in a variety of industries (recently investing in a medical device company sold for $900m with a 75x return and a software business sold with a 3 year, 8x return). More recently Julian has focused on natural resources, founding African Resource Capital.

Julian is qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte & Touche before working in corporate finance, private equity and venture capital. Julian has a law degree from Cambridge.

Head of R&D

Colin Metcalfe has over 50 years’ experience in the steel industry. He began his career at Dorman Long, working on the Forth Road, Humber and Clifton Suspension bridges. He was later tasked with re-organising the Dorman Long wire works and assisted with the expansion of the business following a merger with British Steel. Post-merger, he joined Lackenby steelworks and commissioned the new rod mill before managing the finishing department.


Colin later joined DarChem becoming the director of the Special Steels Division. Colin founded Manpower Services and Superflo Engineering, specialising in piping systems and fabrications for nuclear chemical and offshore projects. He grew this business to >£100m in turnover before exiting to set up a new company specialising in chemical plant design. He founded Binding Solutions Services Limited in 2012 which was acquired by Binding Solutions Limited in 2016. 

Head of Plant & Construction

David trained as a Mechanical Engineer at Stothert & Pitt Ltd, and spent 14 years with the Blue Circle Group. He was managing director of R.O Stokes & Co Ltd, a long-established company operating worldwide in the mineral processing field. He has been chairman of Mineral Engineering Processing Ltd (MEP) since 1999. MEP operates globally, constructing plants and supplying equipment to large portfolio of clients including ArcelorMittal, Lafarge Tarmac and Holcim. David has been published in Mine & Quarry Magazine and has presented various technical papers to the International Mineral Society. David is a Fellow of the Mineral Engineering Society.

Head of Technology

Richard is an experienced chemist and has worked on the technology since its inception. Having previously headed laboratory operations and worked for Tarmace Lafarge, Richard now conducts R&D, binder formulation and larger scale trials for customers both at the lab and on site. He is also a member of the institute of Quarrying and a member of the institute for Asphalt technology.  


Manoli is an experienced mining and operations executive. He is the co-founder of BRE-Gen, designing, building and financing renewable power generation solutions for governments and multinational mining companies in emerging markets. He was previously Managing Director at AIM-listed Stratmin Global Resources and Director of Operations and Acquisitions at Redrock Resources, a publicly listed exploration and mining company. 

Business Development & Finance

Tom completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Manchester and postgraduate at the Sorbonne, Paris in 2015 with an MSc. in Economics and a Masters in Finance. Tom has worked for Binding Solutions Limited since its inception. He has experience with venture capital in the technology sector and investment analysis in the natural resource sector. He previously worked for African Resource Capital, an African-focused mining investment company.

R&D & Co-founder

Peter has extensive experience in the steel and chemical industry. He started his career as a chemist with British Steel and later worked at Tarmac primarily with blast furnace and steel slag. Working for Lafarge, he developed a man-made constituent for the production of special concrete, earning the Innovation of the Year award. Peter regularly gives industry and university lectures including at Newcastle University and at the Libyan Steelworks. He has also conducted joint test work at the Moscow Institute of Solid Fuels. Peter is a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist. He is a member of Royal Society of Chemistry, a member of Institute of Asphalt Technology and holds a Gold Medal for Services to Mineral Extractive Industry.
